Verträglich Reisen is currently the only magazine for environmentfriendly travel in the German-speaking countries that has been covering topics related to sustainable tourism continually for the past nineteen years. Our travel reports, portraits, interviews and short reports inform readers about accommodations, travel destinations and tour operators. Advertising clients can take advantage of our inserts, PR reports, entries in tour operator directories and overviews of accommodations to specifically promote their offers to an interested readership. The success of this concept is proven by the high circulation of Verträglich Reisen. 215,000 copies will be printed in November 2010 for the magazine’s 2011 edition, which will be distributed accurately through newsagents, health food shops, mail-order companies specialised in outdoor products and other distribution partners to potential clients.

Our website at www.vertraeglich-reisen.de complements the annual print edition. Here, holidaymakers find travel reports, accommodations and addresses for their holiday planning, a list of tour operators, travel agencies and up-to-date offers of our partners in our online travel exchange (Restplatzbörse). Advertising clients have the choice of a variety of advertising formats, part of which are already included in the price of the print advertisement. Currently, a number of approximately 30,500 visitors per month take advantage of the travel information on the website www.vertraeglich-reisen.de, with a total of approximately 90,000 page impressions – with an upward tendency.
Reader survey
The readership of Verträglich Reisen is well-educated and well-to-do (over 50 percent have tertiary education). They go on holidays frequently (half of them take a five-day or longer vacation at least twice a year, 70 percent squeeze in a brief vacation twice or more a year). About 40 percent of our readership lives together with a partner. About 40 percent with a partner and children.
Age pattern
It is neither the very young low-budget holidaymakers, nor the older ones, already settled in their ways, but a group that is “in the prime of its life”
(25 to 55 years) that seeks travelling tips and inspiration from Verträglich Reisen. 90 percent state that they use Verträglich Reisen as a source of
reference for potential holiday destinations, 70 percent for accommodation and 60 percent for tour operators.
Holiday destinations and activities
For a quarter of our readership, Germany ranks first as the most popular holiday destination. It is followed by Southern Europe (18 percent), Central Europe (16
percent) and Northern Europe (13 percent). Hiking, cycling and nature experience holidays lead the list of popular holiday types.
Reading habits
Verträglich Reisen is read with a lot of interest. Especially the travel reports and PR reports are read very attentively. The magazine’s annual
issue is either kept or passed on. Only 3 per cent state that they discard their issue when they are finished reading it. 50 percent keep it and almost 25 percent
pass it on to one other person at least.
